Ashland, Wisconsin – NorthLakes Community Clinic is pleased to announce that Sean Akerman, PhD., has joined the Behavioral Health and Recovery staff in Ashland. This group works together to provide integrated care for our patients with all of the services NorthLakes offers. Akerman is a behavioral health and recovery therapist and sees adults and adolescents ages 13 and older.
“Therapy is one of the only spaces that allows someone to step outside the various life roles they inhabit and speak openly” said Akerman. “I find it very rewarding to be part of that process, of the explorations and growth that can happen in the private space of a collaborative relationship. And in a culture that is increasingly disconnected and fragmented, I believe therapy can be valuable for helping a person shape the relationship they want to have with themselves, others, and their world.”
Akerman received his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts, earned his PhD in psychology from City University of New York, and his Masters in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Massachusetts – Boston.
Outside of work Akerman enjoys spending time in the natural world, hiking, fishing, and snow-shoeing. He moonlights as a poet and a novelist and has published several books recently.
