Thanks to a generous grant from the Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin, NorthLakes Community Clinic has recently installed a state-of-the-art digital X-ray machine at its Lakewood Clinic. Arriving at the clinic over the summer, this cutting-edge equipment represents a significant advancement in patient care for the rural communities of Oconto County.
The new Del Medical DFMT 18M Radiographic Imaging System, equipped with the ability to produce high-resolution images, provides immediate, on-site X-ray services to patients in Lakewood and surrounding areas. This upgrade not only reduces the need for patients to travel long distances for imaging services but also enables them to consolidate multiple medical services under one roof – improving the efficiency and accessibility of healthcare in the Lakewood region.
“We are incredibly grateful to the PSC for this grant, which allows us to continue our mission of removing barriers to wellness in our rural communities,” said Dr. Adam Habeck, a Chiropractor for NorthLakes’ Lakewood Clinic. “This new X-ray machine is a game-changer for our patients, providing them with quality, timely diagnostic services that are close to home.”
The previous X-ray equipment was 20+ years old and posed a few significant challenges. Along with a risk of failure, the model made it difficult to find replacement parts. The new machine, however, offers several great benefits, including:
- Reduced radiation exposure. Requiring lower radiation doses, the new technology improves patient safety.
- Enhanced quality. The digital radiography system allows for more accurate diagnoses and reduces the need for repeat X-rays.
- Immediate access. The NorthLakes team can review results in real-time to reduce patient wait times and expedite treatment plans.
- Improved care. The images can be shared electronically across multiple NorthLakes locations to allow for better collaboration among providers and more comprehensive care for patients.
The $99,415 Telemedicine Grant from the PSC covered the entire cost of the replacement. By continuing to support and invest in advanced medical technology, the Commission has helped ensure residents of underserved areas like Lakewood receive the same quality of care as those in more urban settings.
