Julia Eck
Dental Assistant
Eau Claire Clinic
Why do you work at NorthLakes?
I work at NorthLakes because of the mission and its values. I am incredibly passionate about what I do, and without NorthLakes, I don’t know if that would have ever happened. There is something about knowing you are making a big difference in your patients’ lives that never makes work feel like work.
What procedures would you primarily be assisting with?
We start the morning by preparing treatment rooms, reviewing the day’s schedule, and ensuring all materials are ready for each procedure. Throughout the day, we assist the dentist chairside during exams and treatments, take digital X-rays, update patient records, and help explain procedures and post-op instructions to patients. We also play a key role in maintaining strict infection control protocols, managing instruments between appointments, and helping keep the schedule running smoothly. Beyond the clinical work, we provide reassurance and support to patients, helping create a comfortable and positive experience from start to finish.
What qualities make someone successful in this role at your clinic?
Someone who is successful in this role at our clinic is dependable, detail-oriented, and genuinely compassionate. We value team players who communicate clearly, stay organized in a fast-paced environment, and take initiative without needing constant direction. A positive attitude and the ability to help patients feel calm and comfortable are just as important as strong clinical skills. Adaptability and a willingness to keep learning also go a long way in thriving on our team.

Macey Rowe
Dental Hygienist
Hayward Clinic
What procedures would you primarily be assisting with?
I primarily provide preventative services to our patients such as prophylaxis, periodontal assessments, scaling and root planing, taking radiographs, fluoride treatments, sealants, and patient education. I also collaborate closely with the dentist to identify restorative needs and help patients understand treatment plans.
What does a typical day look like for dental hygienists?
As a dental hygienist, my typical day is very patient-centered. I review health histories, assess oral conditions, provide preventative care, and most importantly, educate patients. A big part of my day is communication – helping patients understand their oral health and feel comfortable.
What qualities make someone successful in this role at your clinic?
To be successful in this role as a hygienist, you need strong communication skills, attention to detail, and empathy. Patients may feel anxious or overwhelmed, so it is important to build trust quickly. You also must stay adaptable; every patient and every day can look different.
Why do you work at NorthLakes?
I work at NorthLakes because I value serving our communities that may not always have consistent access to dental care. I appreciate the mission-driven environment and the focus on prevention and whole-person care. It’s meaningful to be part of an organization that prioritizes patients’ overall well-being.

Lexis Konecny
Dental Assistant
Eau Claire Clinic
What qualities make someone successful in this role at your clinic?
Being a people person is the most important part of the job! I think you need to be able to talk to all sorts of different people while assisting. You and the patient are left alone in the room sometimes while waiting for the dentist. It is important to have good conversations to make them feel more comfortable. You must also be soft and gentle because many people have dental anxiety.
What procedures would you primarily be assisting with?
I work in the pediatric department, so I mostly help with cleanings, fillings, crowns, space maintainers, extractions, sealants, and “sleepy appointments” with anesthesia.
Why do you work at NorthLakes?
I work at NorthLakes because we give AMAZING opportunities to our patients and staff. I have never worked in a place that cares as much about its patients as NorthLakes does. Every single person I have met at NorthLakes focuses on patient care and making sure every patient walks out of our doors happy.

Beth Tetzner
Dental Hygienist
Ashland, WI
What does a typical day look like for a dental hygienist?
I have time set at the beginning and end of the day for setting up and breaking down the dental areas. Depending on my patient schedule, I typically see seven to nine patients a day. I place fluoride varnish and do sealant repairs to help prevent and stop cavities.
What qualities make someone successful in this role at your clinic?
People who are genuinely here to serve our community’s needs. Being able to think outside the box for patient care. Not everyone is the same, and many of our patients are children, those with special needs, or have dental fears.
Why do you work at NorthLakes?
I grew up in Ashland; this is my community. I take a lot of pride in being part of an organization that provides quality care to the people who live here. I love my job and my patients. I have been here for almost 17 years. I feel like I have grown up with NorthLakes and my patients. The Trust that my patients place in me is rewarding.
I feel like I am given the tools to help a patient succeed. Recently, I collaborated with an occupational therapist to work with a young teen with special needs and a fear of the dentist. They helped prep him to come see me, and we were able to communicate and meet his needs.
