The NorthLakes 100 Who Care Sawyer County launched its first collective giving event of the year, demonstrating the power of community philanthropy. This grassroots initiative unites members who combine resources, identify local needs, and collaboratively determine funding recipients. The membership selected the Stone Lake Historical Society to receive $10,000 in the Arts, Literacy, and Museum category.
The Stone Lake Historical Society will invest these funds in materials and labor for accessibility improvements—constructing decks, stairs, and ramps. This enhancement builds upon their significant restoration achievements, including the Soo Line Depot, a Green Bay caboose, and the relocated 1926 Stone Hall and Memorial Hall—all interconnected to form a comprehensive museum complex. The facility welcomes visitors of all ages, hosting various community activities and providing seniors with opportunities to reminisce. The museum offers free admission Friday through Sunday, noon to 4 PM, from Memorial Day until October 4.
“Sawyer County is so fortunate to have the NorthLakes 100 Who Care giving circle, which aims to help non-profits and charities thrive. This is a well-organized and positive group,” said Connie Schield, president of Stone Lake Historical Society.
The event also spotlighted two deserving organizations: The Cable Hayward Area Art Council (CHARAC) and Sawyer County Literacy, which presented their missions and funding needs. Many 100 Who Care members extend their generosity beyond the primary recipient, contributing additional funds to these finalists.
Community partnerships strengthen these giving events, with the Hayward Area Rotary Club providing food and the Steakhouse & Lodge donating their spacious venue.
The 100 Who Care chapters, founded and hosted by NorthLakes Community Clinic, are modeled after the national 100 Who Care Alliance movement. Two giving rounds remain in 2025: environment/animals/garden/recreation (July) and social services (September). For more information, please contact Madelaine Rekemeyer at mrekemeyer@nlccwi.org.
