American Heritage Productions is a non-profit that supports the creation and production of original musical shows and concerts, emphasizing history and environmental stewardship. Warren Nelson writes songs and leads a group of talented performers who celebrate events…large and small…and entertain with humor and exceptional musical talents.

The Ashland Chamber Music Society’s (ACMS) mission is to bring high quality, affordable concerts to the Chequamegon Bay area. Join us for evenings of beautiful music! We look forward to seeing you at the concerts! ACMS is an all-volunteer, organization.

The Ashland Historical Society, is a volunteer organization that promotes the appreciation of local history and pride of community through a visual connection to the past by collecting and preserving memorabilia and artifacts, stories, and traditions and by functioning as an educational resource.

Mural Brick Road is a fun promotion bringing attention to the numerous beautiful public murals depicting actual people, places, and events from Ashland County’s rich history. From Butternut in southern Ashland County to Madeline Island in northern Ashland County. Ashland County has become a public art destination that is not weather-dependent. Our vibrant murals can be seen 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year!

The initial focus of this endeavor will be on activities that have the greatest potential economic impact on the region:Setting up virtual storefronts for artists, craftspeople, and businesses in the region so they can sell their goods online. Moving regional art crawls, studio tours, and other arts events online via creation of virtual tours and artist/craftspeople profiles. Creation of a regionally-focused directory of artists, craftspeople, and food producers. Launching the Authentic Superior brand to our core target markets, starting within the greater Midwest area.

Our purpose is sharing the history of the Barnes Area through preservation and education.

The Bay Area Film Society was founded in 1997 by a small group of movie lovers. Our goal is to foster appreciation for the art of film. We believe film and the filmgoing experience are powerful vehicles for social change and personal introspection. We seek to make our community and the world a better place by sharing cinematic experiences & instigating meaningful dialogues from a broad range of people. BAFS provides opportunities to discover, cultivate, and amplify diverse voices of filmmakers who tell their stories to a wider public. Cinema has the ability to change someone’s perspective and create awareness on multiple aspects of life.

The Parkinsong Choir is a community choir formed as part of the Bay Area Parkinson’s Support Group. The group hopes to bring together people with Parkinson’s Disease, their partners, friends, caregivers, and community members to sing together and offer mutual support to one another.

The Bohemian Hall on 11th Ave East in Ashland has been a fixture in our community for generations – polka dances, pancake breakfasts, and celebrations of every sort have filled this hall with friends and family for over a century. Ask anyone around these parts if they’ve got a fond memory of the Bohemian, and chances are they do.

We formed a new nonprofit organization (the Bay City Cultural Center) to save the building for continued community benefit and enjoyment!

Your donation will help us revitalize this important gathering place and ensure that the “Jewel of the East End” continues to bring people together for another hundred years!

The Bayfield Library, housed in a historic Carnegie building, is a progressive community-oriented organization. Our kind and friendly staff strive to have all people feel comfortable, we encourage exploration of the library resources and provide opportunities for new understandings. We have a play area for the young, programs for people of all ages, and our lending library is diverse and professionally curated.  Coming to the Bayfield Library is amiable and inviting like the warm sun on a spring day.

Bayfield County Historical Society (BCHS) is a consortium of ten local historical societies located throughout the county, and is an affiliate of the Wisconsin Historical Society. For over 50 years, BCHS has worked to preserve, share, and disseminate the history of Bayfield County. BCHS outreach includes participation in annual events such as the Bayfield County Fair and 55+ Senior Expo. BCHS publishes Bayfield County Historical Happenings, an award-winning newsletter featuring in-depth articles about local history subjects. BCHS responds to requests for information about area history and works to promote the museums and events of its chapter member organizations. BCHS and its chapter organizations work to connect residents to their communities and county by developing a “sense of place” through an understanding of local history. The Bayfield County Historical Society serves the region’s residents and supports the tourism economy by encouraging visitors to explore local history at area museums.BCHS has approximately 1,300 members and maintains a website: www.bayfieldcountyhistory.org . Chapter members of BCHS are: Barnes Area Historical Association, Cable/Namakagon Area Historical Society, Cornucopia Historic Green Shed Museum, Drummond Area Historical Society, Eileen Area Historical Society, Mason Area Historical Society, Oulu Historical Society, Port Wing Area Historical Society, Washburn Area Historical Society, and Western Bayfield County Historical Society.

The Bayfield Heritage Association, an affiliate of the Wisconsin Historical Society, is a nonprofit dedicated to collecting, preserving and sharing the history and culture of Bayfield and our surrounding region.

The Bayfield Maritime Museum preserves, interprets, and presents artifacts that portray the dynamic nautical history of Bayfield and the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior.
Free Admission.Over 15,000 guests a season entertained entirely by volunteers.

Bayfield Summer Concerts (BSC) has been providing a series of mostly classical concerts featuring local and regional musicians in various venues in Bayfield Wisconsin since 1997. Its mission is to bring high quality artistic and educational musical performance to an underserved audience at minimal cost. At the door donations cover less than a third of our concert costs, and we rely on grants and special gifts. Seventy-five percent of our annual budget goes to pay our artists.

The Belanger Settlement is a community of homesteads which had its beginning in 1882, when Frank Belanger Sr. and his wife Elizabeth established the first area homestead farm in the rugged hills about 10 miles west of Bayfield, Wisconsin. By mid-1890s, several other families had joined them. Now there are just a few families left in the Settlement. Yet, many people who once lived there, and even their children who never lived there, consider it to be their place of origin, their home. Each year, the first weekend in July, a homecoming picnic is held in the Settlement, and people who are now scattered from coast to coast, come home to visit. Closer to home, there are many families throughout Bayfield and Ashland counties who have family ties in the Settlement. It was through the support of all of the people who have bonds with the Settlement that the most recent crisis for St. Anthony Church was bridged.

The Benoit Community Center is utilized by area youth and adults to encourage socialization and education.

The Big Lake Orchestra is the Chequamegon Bay region’s community symphony. We bring together local musicians, professional leadership, area businesses, and you!

CHARAC (pronounced chair-ack), was organized as a 501(c)3 to operate exclusively for charitable purposes, to encourage the production, performance and appreciation of the arts through networking among artists and the community, supporting artists, increasing public awareness of the arts, and facilitating the arts through cultural programming, and education.

You’re invited to take a step back in time and explore the southern areas of Bayfield County’s rich history at the Cable/Namakagon Historical Museum in downtown Cable, Wisconsin.The building housing the history museum was originally a potato warehouse and dates back to about 1905. Since then, the building has functioned as a warehouse for the local lumber company, an apartment building, office building, and an ice-cream parlor, before being donated to the Cable/Namakagon Historical Society 100 years later.

The Cable Natural History Museum is an AAM-accredited museum dedicated to connecting people to Northwoods nature through educational experiences that inspire wonder, discovery, and responsibility. We offer many exciting programs for children, adults and families. Hikes, crafts, games, river and forest explorations, naturalist-guided canoe and kayak trips, bird watching, engaging lectures, and live raptor programs are just a few of the educational experiences we provide to residents, visitors, and vacationers in the Cable Area. Come visit us and experience our programs, fantastic exhibits, children’s Curiosity Center, Wayside Wanderings Natural Play Area, and so much more.

The Chequamegon Area Choir was established in the Chequamegon Bay region of Wisconsin in 1973. This community chorus promotes two basic purposes: 1) Strive to maintain a high quality “professional” choral ensemble utilizing a varied repertoire of music, and 2) Provide a civic organization that has its foundation in camaraderie and pleasure between its members. There are no auditions required – rehearsals are “painless and penalty-free.” There is a wide range of musicality among our members. All who are 16 and older and enjoy singing and the company of others should feel encouraged to join our musical community.

The Chequamegon Bay Arts Council is a non-profit member organization that supports, develops and promotes art and artists in northern Wisconsin.  CBAC sponsors exhibits for local artists to show and sell their work;  raises and distributes funds for artistic grants and scholarships.  CBAC publishes and distributes a quarterly newsletter which contains art news, regional art calendars and resources.  We believe that a vibrant arts community benefits the community at large.

The Chequamegon Children’s Theater began in 1987 and incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) in 1997.Since then, 397 children have participated in 37 productions and over 100 performances. The CCT mission is to offer all children who wish to participate the opportunity to develop confidence in themselves and increase their self-esteem through the unique experience of live theater. In a supportive environment, under the tutelage of experienced, professional directors, children learn collaboration, discipline, the simple joy of performance and the magic of theater. All of this is done at no cost to their parents.

Cheq Bay Community Radio, operating as WVCB–the Voice of Chequamegon Bay, is a volunteer-driven radio station serving nine communities on the South Shore of Lake Superior. We strive to address challenges faced by rural areas that can include limited access to regional news and information, social isolation, and the need for stronger community networks. With a focus on local programming in music, news, documentary, and discussion, WVCB aims to strengthen the sense of place, connection, and belonging in the served communities by providing a platform that amplifies underrepresented voices, promotes local culture, and fosters dialogue on local issues, enabling collective growth and resilience in our region.

Since its founding in 1965, the Chequamegon Symphony Orchestra (CSO) continues to provide enriching, engaging, and entertaining orchestral concerts to the residents of northern Wisconsin. Orchestra members are Northland College students and area people from all walks of life, including teachers, doctors, ministers, computer programmers, engineers, retirees, and more. Because of our rural location, musicians come from as far as 60 miles to participate in the orchestra.

Chequamegon Theater Association is a vibrant active community theater which was founded in 1972. It is housed in the Rinehart Building and seats 97 and is run by a working Board of Directors and other volunteers to produce four plays a year, and a children’s theater workshop in the summer. Everyone is welcome to audition or be involved in other ways.

The Cornucopia Historic Green Shed Museum is proud to present exhibits of local history.

The Drummond Historical Museum gives children and adults a chance to go back in time.As you wander past the old photos and numerous logging artifacts on display you will get a real sense of what it was like to live back in the late 1800’s during the logging era in Northern Wisconsin. There is also an exhibit of animals in the Chequamegon National Forest in Northern Wisconsin. Everyone really enjoys seeing all the animals on display!

To provide the members of the community with access to materials and information which can broaden their lives; improve their minds; fulfill intellectual, educational, and enlightenment objectives;
and provide a warm, comfortable meeting place for patrons of all ages.

The mission of the Evelyn Goldberg Briggs Memorial Library is to provide quality materials and services that fulfill the educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs of the entire community that fulfill the educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs of the entire community in a manner that is fiscally responsible and with an atmosphere that is welcoming and respectful.

The Forest Lodge Library is the learning center of our community and the place people turn to for the discovery of ideas, the joy of reading and the power of information. The mission of the Forest Lodge Library is to enhance the quality of life for our community by providing open access to cultural, intellectual and informational resources and services that are delivered in a welcoming, convenient and responsive manner.

Vaughn Public Library is dedicated to providing open access to information, materials and services in a welcoming physical environment that supports, connects and empowers all community members through dynamic collections, applied technology, professional librarianship and compassion.

Big Top presents concerts, shows, and events June through September in an intimate 900-seat all-“canvas” tent, including international headliners, regional talent, and original productions.  In addition to the Big Top we engage the community with intimate performances at The Backstage and StageNorth. This includes Open Mic every Wednesday which is free to the public. Improv every other month, ticketed events, theater through the Groundlings, and other coming events including comedy, and film festivals.  Our educational offerings include BlueGrass Camp for youth and adults, and free family and school shows to engage our youth.

To teach youth seamanship, personal responsibility, teamwork ,and self esteem, while building skills in leadership and citizenship. To inspire all generations to be responsible stewards of Lake Superior.,To promote awareness, appreciation and preservation of Lake Superior’s marine communities and maritime heritage.

The Madeline Island Historical Preservation Association (MIHPA) is a non-profit organization. Our mission is to protect, preserve, interpret and increase public awareness of the cultural and architectural history of Madeline Island.
Come and experience a first-hand view of turn of the century life in La Pointe on Madeline Island at MIHPA’s Heritage Center. Visit the Veterans’ Honor Garden maintained by the organization.

The Mason Area Historical Society has accumulated well over 2,000 local history artifacts and about 100 family histories and other local history documents for our Depot Museum. Our photograph collection has several thousand historical pictures of local Mason area people and places. We publish a historic newsletter at least three times each year and have many other activities that promote the preservation and dissemination of local history.

Native American Educational Technologies Inc. (NAET) in 2025 is focused on cultural and historic events, land back, and Indigenous agricultural food sovereignty on Madeline Island. NAET currently administers the non-profit shared housing and offices on Madeline Island called the “Flicker House” and providing badly needed housing opportunities for visiting artists and vendors.
The Flicker House serves as a base for educational media development, cultural and artistic projects, hosting individuals and groups to the island related to the 10,000 years of Indigenous occupation, most recently exemplified by the Ojibwe Nation presence for several hundred years as the nation’s capital.

The groups primary focus is bringing cultural activities to Native and non-Native people of all ages through dance. This encompasses the core physical activity of
dance, ceremony, language emmersion, and a nutritional component finding art in all areas of life.
The origin is the drum or “heartbeat” which if listened to will bring these elements full circle (the hoop) to a” better way of life”. Our mission is to bring sharing
through unity and the knowledge that we are all “ONE TRIBE”.

Oulu Cultural and Heritage Center, Inc.The Oulu Cultural and Heritage Center, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit dedicated to the preserving and sharing of Oulu area history.The Heritage Center complex at the Palo Homestead in the township of Oulu, Wisconsin is operated by a Board of Directors in partnership with the Oulu Historical Society and a staff of volunteers. The Palo homestead has been on the National and State Registers for Historic Places since 2002. Other buildings continue to be added and restored at the site.

Heritage Hall – Home of the Port WIng Historical Society. The mission of the PWAHS is to provide research resources, educational opportunities and to safeguard our area history and heritage.

A nonprofit corporation that inspires, empowers, validates, and supports people with all abilities through art. Co-founded in 2012 by artist and art therapist Sara Balbin, SMART seeks to open doors and unlock minds by providing public venues on land and online for displaying art by individuals of all abilities, and by educating the public about the health benefits of artistic expression.

The Groundlings are a non-profit group that produces theater in the Chequamegon Bay area. Located out of Washburn, WI, they work to produce 4 shows a year.

The Washburn Legacy Consortium is comprised of six local organizations. EACH ORGANIZATION WAS FORMED FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES, WITH THE HISTORY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE OF WASHBURN AT THE HEART OF THEIR MISSIONS. The consortium was formed to facilitate communication, collaboration and cooperation among the groups, to help each group meet its needs, and to work toward achieving common goals. The consortium’s goals: to build communications among our organizations and with the public, to address challenges to our organizations’ sustainability and vigor, and to relate our past to our identity as a community.

We are a community center dedicated to fostering, presenting and preserving the cultural, artistic and historical life of Washburn and the surrounding Chequamegon Bay Region. The Center serves as a cultural and educational resource for the Washburn and Chequamegon Bay region. We are committed to the preservation of our unique building while serving as a community gathering place and focal point.

The mission of the Washburn Heritage Association is to enrich the experience of living in Washburn by telling the compelling stories and preserving the historic buildings and culture of Washburn.

The Mission of the Washburn Public Library is to provide the residents of the city of Washburn and the surrounding community with quality books, media and programs that serve their informational, educational and recreational needs.

Residents and visitors to our beautiful library are invited to relax and read in one of our many comfy chairs.

The mission of the BCHS is to collaborate with county historical society chapters to educate, preserve, and disseminate Bayfield County history. BCHS is an affiliate of the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Every day in Wisconsin, neighbors with different backgrounds and beliefs pass each other, sometimes connecting and often not. Despite these difference, they share a powerful connection to their home. Wisconsin Humanities mission is to strengthen community life through educational and cultural programs that inspire civic participation and imagination. By preserving local history, starting important conversations, and creating new traditions, Wisconsin Humanities helps build a stronger, more connected Wisconsin.

It is the purpose of Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Public Broadcasting to participate in, report on, and reflect upon all aspects of life in northwestern Wisconsin. In doing so, we will present program services which are educational in the best and broadest sense of the word.

Environmental / Animals / Gardens / Recreation

Ashland Rotary is a Civic Club serving the Chequamegon Bay Region for the past 102 years. The club’s focus is on youth leadership and service to the community. Rotary is proud of its recognition of area youth through its Service Above Self Award programs. As an active community member the club assists with a variety of community activities and events including highway and beach cleanups. Ashland Rotary is currently working on a Splashpad in coordination with the City of Ashland. Planning and fund raising for the $350,000 project is underway now with donations being accepted. About 2/3 of funds are raised so far. We are also raising funds for the water usage operating costs.

To honor all members of the military, past and present, providing opportunities, resources and a location for education, socialization and rehabilitation, with the purpose to guide and prepare for the future.

American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation Inc. To promote and conduct the finest international cross country ski competition; To serve as good stewards of the American Birkebeiner Trail; To support healthy and active lifestyles among people of all ages and abilities. Achieved through year- round programs for; skiing, running and biking. The Birkie Green initiative serves to reduce our carbon footprint through 5 areas of focus; Limit our use of unrecycled material for retail and for race swag, Increase our reliance on renewable energy,Reduce or offset our harmful carbon production, Continue to reduce waste and choose positive environmental alternatives, and Build sustainable structures going forward.

The Apostle Islands Historic Preservation Conservancy is established to be a hands-on, public interest organization that supports the preservation and interpretation of historic structures and cultural landscapes throughout the Apostle Islands Region of northern Wisconsin. All actions to fulfill this purpose that involve the interests of government agencies or other organizations will be pursued on a cooperative basis and developed and undertaken by means of full consultation and consensus. In the case of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, any action to be considered by the Conservancy shall be either specifically requested or proposed by the National Park Service/Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, or supported or determined acceptable in advance by the same.

Your day with Superior Sport Fishing will be a one-of-a-kind Apostle Islands Charter Fishing trip on beautiful Lake Superior. Our trips travel through out the islands all summer long taking you to the fish. In addition, with the area we cover you will have many opportunities to take in the Apostle Islands National Lake shore. Since our operation runs May-September, we experience many faces of Lake Superior. Throughout our season, there are very few times where fishing is tough. The Apostle Islands are a premiere fishery offering many reefs in which fish are attracted to. As a result Superior Sport Fishing excels in fishing and works hard to know where the fish are. With multiple boats and captains on the water, we have the know how to put you on fish.

The purpose of the Ashland Bayfield County Sportsmen (ABC Sportsmen) is to promote the hunting, fishing, trapping, education, and conservation ethics of Ashland and Bayfield counties.

Our club publishes a monthly newsletter to keep our members up to date on club buisness & future events. We sponsor many events throughout the year, promoting conservation, and ethics to all ages of Bayfield & Ashland County residents.

The Ashland Ski Trail Association (ASTA) is a non-profit 501 c(3) organization that receives no funding from city, state or federal governments. The non-profit is run by a small board of directors, the hospital trails are maintained by volunteers and the organization is funded by generous community donations and trailhead contributions.

Our mission is to promote, improve, & preserve safe responsible snowmobiling by securing trail easements, placing necessary signage on the trails, brush, groom, & maintain trails & grooming equipment.

In the spring of 2022, Big Top and Mt. Ashwabay merged into one organization.Both of our organizations are community- based educational organizations that are major economic drivers for the Northwoods and play an important role in the quality of life for the residents and visitors to the area, especially for families and children.

The Bad River Gitiganing Community Garden project was started in 2003. One project operates in an ancient gardening site. There are also home gardens, a garden at the Elder Center, and experimental gardens where permaculture methods are being tested to grow more food in the heavy clay soil. The Tribe is also working on re-educating members on how to harvest and prepare wild foods, and providing community members with some of the resources to carry this out.

The Bay Area Civic Center is a year round facility that is host to many events including annual meetings, dances, fundraisers, trade shows, and weddings. From October to mid-March the BACC is home to the Ashland Youth Hockey Association, Northland College Men’s & Women’s Hockey and Ashland High School Hockey.

Bayfield Nordic, Inc., is an all-volunteer organization to provide high-quality cross-country ski experiences for regional citizens and visitors to our trails, with high-quality grooming for the best ski conditions we can provide from weather and snow conditions.
The organization facilitates and oversees ski trail design, annual maintenance, and consistent in-season trail grooming, with the use of trail fees and contributions for materials and supplies. The organization also collaborates with others to put on annual events that bring many people to the area from throughout the mid-west.

Recreation and Fitness Resources is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization rooted in beautiful Bayfield, WI. We provide and support affordable access to facilities, programs, classes, and events that promote health, activity, and fun. We operate the Bayfield Rec Center, North Coast Community Sailing, Point to La Pointe Open Water Swim, and a variety of other programs, classes, and events. Need-based financial assistance is available for all RFR memberships, classes and programs.

We believe when individuals are healthy and active, our community is healthy and active. That’s why connecting our community members to affordable recreation and fitness programs in the Bayfield area is at the heart of what we do.

The mission of the Cable Community Farm is simple: grow food and build community. We envision our community with abundant access to healthy, affordable food and our farm as a hub for learning and growing. We value sustainability, inclusivity, and collaboration.

The Cable Rod and Gun Club is a nonprofit shooting range, open to the public. Located in Cable, Wisconsin, we welcome the general public, new shooters and visitors to the community. We have trap, skeet, sporting clays, pistol and rifle ranges.

CAMBA has developed and manages a regional mountain bike trail system in northern Wisconsin with over 130 miles of singletrack trails, over 70 miles of groomed winter trails, and over 200 miles of mapped gravel routes. The CAMBA trails lie in and around the beautiful Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest as well as in the Bayfield and northern Sawyer County Forests – nearly a million acres in which to ride your mountain bike or your gravel bike.

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe and fun practice range for all archers. Our archery club offers several different practice ranges with targets from 10 to 80 yards, including a 14 target Field/Hunter course, and a 20 target 2D animal course.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots organization focused on national policies to address climate change. Chequamegon CCL Chapter members are also interested in local and state efforts to address climate change.

The Chequamegon Humane Associations mission is to promote the humane treatment of animals in the Chequamegon Bay area, and beyond. We provide shelter, food, medical care and love to homeless dogs, cats and pocket pets then adopt them to forever homes. We cover Ashland and Bayfield county, plus offer assistance on 3 Native American reservations. We offer volunteer opportunities plus outreach events in our community to promote animal welfare. Funded primarily on donations and fundraising, CHA touches the lives of around 1000 animals yearly. We will be offering a low cost spay and neuter program to area residents. We will be recognized by Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, giving us the official “no-kill” shelter status. We are proud of our accomplishments, but we cannot continue this lifesaving work without support from our community we serve.

Chequamegon Bay Renewables is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to local sustainable initiatives, primarily, but not limited to, renewable energy. Our mission is to work with multiple entities, in the spirit of cooperation and community building, to reduce reliance on fossil fuels while promoting clean water, clean air, organic foods, and healthy living. We initiate projects, develop resources, and educate to make renewable energy more accessible to our community.

The organization’s mission is to teach youth the game of soccer in a fun-filled, family-friendly environment. The Chequamegon Bay Soccer club was formed in 2003. It was one family’s pursuit to provide the Chequamegon Bay area with more competitive soccer that brought about the structure that eventually became the non-profit organization in 2004. Originally formed as the “Chequamegon Soccer Club”, it grew quickly in size and popularity. Over time and with hours of volunteer/community involvement, new fields were created west of the Ashland High School to provide even more opportunities for play. CBSC has had more than 2,500 participants since its inception.

The Friends is an all-volunteer organization of folks who support the conservation and enjoyment of the Lincoln Community Forest in southeast Bayfield County.  We have built and maintain 5 miles of trails for hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing. We encourage people to explore on their own and also provide six guided hikes and educational programs throughout the year to highlight wildlife, plants and ecology of the forest and scenic Marengo River which flows through it.  We also help conserve fish and wildlife through habitat development projects, such as wood turtle nesting sites and fish habitat, all done cooperatively with the landowner, Landmark Conservancy.

Friends of the Apostle Islands is a group of passionate sailors, paddlers, anglers, lighthouse lovers, and more who all love the Apostle Islands. Our mission is to promote appreciation for and preservation of the cultural and natural environment of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. As the official philanthropic partner of the park, we work to support projects that protect the islands and make them safer,more beautiful, and more accessible for all.

The Friends of the Iron River National Fish Hatchery are people who have an interest in our environment, fishing health, or outdoor recreational spaces. We are a group of concerned volunteers that give our physical, vocal, and monetary support in order to further the outreach of the hatchery’s programs. The Friends of the North Pikes Creek Wetlands is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit conservation organization focused on the long-term protection and scientific management of North Pikes Creek’s wetlands. The Friends developed the Beaver Hollow outdoor education area on their property for recreational and educational use by all community members. This ADA-compliant outdoor venue is open to the public 24/7. The Friends of R.D. Pike Building, Inc., is a 501c3 federal and state recognized non-profit organization. We are dedicated to the renovation and restoration of the building and grounds. Landmark Conservancy is a non-profit conservation organization serving western and northwestern Wisconsin. We work with private landowners who wish to conserve their land in perpetuity, as well as local municipalities, state, and federal entities to create public preserves and trails for all to enjoy. Our primary tools for land protection are conservation easements and land acquisition. As of 2025, we’ve protected nearly 43,000 acres and counting! Some of our projects with public access in Ashland and Bayfield Counties include 1100 acres around Mt. Aswabay, the 220-acre Telemark Forest Preserve, the 396-acre Lincoln Community Forest, Houghton Falls Nature Preserve, the 590-acre Tyler Forks Community Forest, Siskiwit Falls River Preserve, and The Big Ravine.

Lake Superior Paws for Love is a non-profit community based animal service organizationestablished in 1994. Dedicated to promoting the bond between people and animals through service, therapy and education, Lake Superior Paws for Love services the Northwest Wisconsin Area. All services provided by Lake Superior Paws for Love are free of charge and are staffed and operated by volunteers.

The mission of the garden is: to promote, create and maintain sustainable food security on Madeline Island , to provide an environment for community building and personal growth, to educate residents and visitors about horticulture, local gardening, composting, and preserving foods. The garden project was organized in the Autumn of 2009, and space rented on the Sowl farm on Middle Road, now owned by Gip Matthews and Lauren Schuppe. Work groups were formed and land cleared on the farm. 2 other sites were also included in the garden project. At St. John’s Church there are raised beds, apple and plum trees, grapevines, and perennial plants.. A goal of the garden is to grow some produce for donations to the Food Pantry at St. John’s Church, which are made throughout the summer.

The garden relies on active volunteers to help with a multitude of tasks throughout the growing season, such as weeding, planting, harvesting, and composting. This work has been fueled by financial support from many sources, particularly the Apostle Islands Area Community Fund, The Grutzner Family Foundation, St. John’s UCC, and many other individual donations of all sizes. About us“Many hands make light work.” … That is the key principle behind the island’s newest non-profit service organization, Madeline Island Trails, Inc. On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, after lots of discussion and research, a group of islanders met to form a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to “developing and maintaining a recreational trail system on Madeline Island for use by the general public, to protect and further the responsible use of open space on Madeline Island and to lessen the burden on local government for the maintenance and development of recreational trails.”

The Madeline Island Wilderness Preserve is a non-profit land trust dedicated to the protection and preservation of natural areas on Madeline Island for everyone’s enjoyment. Madeline Island is adjacent to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore on the South Shore of Lake Superior in Wisconsin, and is the only one of the Apostle Islands with lands open to private ownership. The MIWP was formed in 1987 and is one of the oldest and most successful land trusts in the State of Wisconsin.

MINO BIMAADIZIIWIN GITIGAANIN (RETURN TO THE GOOD LIFE FARM) understands food and agriculture as an important piece of tribal sovereignty and is dedicated to supporting the needs of the Red Cliff community. The Farm consists of 35 acres including approximately one acre of dedicated garden space and three acres of apple orchards. The rest of the acreage includes forest, open pasture, and a two-acre wetland site.

The Namakagon Trail Groomers Association was founded in 1974 to engage in non-profit activities within Bayfield County Wisconsin, to encourage and promote the safe and courteous sport of snowmobiling, to construct, maintain, and improve snowmobile facilities and trails, and to engage in social and fund-raising activities in line with these purposes.

NCCA is a non-profit organization formed to promote bicycling in Bayfield and Ashland Counties. Bayfield and Ashland counties offer some of the most scenic cycling routes in the state, and the region is receiving increased tourist use, as well as local commuters and recreational riders.

The North End Ski Club in Cable, Wisconsin, came into existence in 1997 with an initial goal of establishing a trailhead at the north end of the American Birkebeiner ski trail near Cable. Since that time our non-profit, volunteer organization has not only achieved that goal, but we have gone on to realize numerous other significant accomplishments, all of which have enriched the local community and provided a variety of outstanding recreational opportunities for local residents and area visitors.

Potter’s Farm Retreat Center is a non-profit created by former Washburn residents Bob and Diane Brander in the 1990’s. It was their vision to create a space for healing and sanctuary. Seeding Kinship is a partnership between the small farms Diaspora Gardens and Manitou Makoons Gitigaan.  We are hosting a Black/Indigenous healing and land-based skill development cohort, partnered with a Settler Reconnection cohort being developed by St. Johns’ UCC.  We will end this work with a Black/Indigenous Arts Festival to celebrate our communities and our futures together, building bridges of understanding with our European-descendent communities. We believe intercultural healing, connection, and celebration work to be the foundation for the resilient, climate-adaptive and strong communities we are working towards.

The Washburn Meditation Center is dedicated to providing space and opportunities for folks in the Chequamegon Bay and beyond to connect to their innate well being through meditation, yoga, dance, martial arts, music and community events. Community meditation is offered on a donation basis and is open to people of all faiths (or no faith) and experience levels, all are welcome here.  Instruction is available for beginners and folks wanting to deepen their practice. Ashland Cares Inc. is a private non-profit organization. Our main goal was a shelter in the Ashland area. There is one now available.

ACAUI is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting and connecting adults 60+ and their families with information, opportunities, and supportive services that enhance life.

The Enrichment Center provides a home away from home atmosphere for people 50 or older to meet new friends, participate in activities, exercise and find a comforting and caring environment. Our activities are designed for different generations of people including cribbage, pool, Tai Chi yoga, pokeno bingo and book clubs just to name a few.

The mission of The Auxilia Initiative is to provide early treatment of psychological trauma after crisis to community members and first responders and increase access to mental health services by increasing therapist training and community engagement. The volunteer-run nonprofit serves the Ashland and Bayfield County area, hosting regular groups for first responders and offering individual sessions to help process the experiences they frequently encounter. The Auxilia Initiative seeks to reduce the stigma of seeking mental health support through education, open conversations about mental health, and promotion of a culture that is supportive of the unique experiences and needs of first responders.

The Bad River Tribe Aims To Work Toward a More Progressive, Financially Stable Government, To Maintain Tribal Sovereignty; and Enable Members to Progress Individually, Towards a More Fulfilling Life Culturally, Spiritually, and Economically. The Bad River Reservation was established by the 1854 Treaty of Lapointe with the U.S. government and was sited along the beautiful shores of Lake Superior and Chequamegon bay. This treaty was finalized on September 30, 1854 at Lapointe on Madeline Island, longtime capital and cultural/religious center of the Ojibwe AKA Chippewa Nation.

Bad River is the largest Chippewa reservation in the state at 124,459 Acres. The reservation boundaries encompass lands in two counties and six municipal townships with 36 miles of Anishinaabeg-Gichigami (Lake Superior) shoreline and over 488 miles of rivers and streams. The 1854 Treaty also set aside 200 acres for traditional “fishing grounds” on the largest island of the 22 Apostle Islands, Madeline Island.

Our practice is rooted in the seven teachings of the Ojibwe: respect, humility, courage, honesty, wisdom, truth, and love.Since 2015, Gwayakobimaadiziwin Bad River Needle Exchange has offered harm reduction services and supplies for people who use drugs in our community. We endeavor to confront the discrimination endured by people who use drugs and advocate for more humane law and policy. We are based out of the Bad River Reservation and are available to meet with people who use drugs in Ashland, Bayfield, Price and Iron Counties in northern Wisconsin.

The Bay Area Parkinson’s Support Group was created to provide encouragement and education for people living with Parkinson’s and their caregivers. We welcome others with related neurological conditions and professionals wishing to support the group members. This building has been completely renovated and is perfect for the services it provides to local women and men facing unplanned pregnancy decisions. CheqBuilt-501c3-The Chequamegon Bay United Impact Land Trust (CheqBUILT) is an emerging Community Land Trust with a mission to create and preserve permanently affordable housing for Ashland and Bayfield County residents. The vision motivating CORE’s volunteers, workers and donors is that older adults thrive in their homes and community and food security will be possible for all, across Northern Bayfield county. We reduce isolation and improve health with our wellness programs and regular social gatherings. Our outreach to individual older adults is in a time of rebuilding, but the goal is to reduce social isolation and foster health through regular check-ins, visits, and simple respite care. When recovery is the task, our durable medical equipment lending closet reduces cost, hassle, and waste. Finally our ENCORE resale shop provides inexpensive quality clothing and household goods, reduces waste, helps downsizing, supports our work, and creates great opportunities for volunteering.

Forward Horizons serves people with disabilities in Ashland and Bayfield counties. We are an all local, grassroots organization; we’re your neighbors, friends, classmates, and business patrons right here in Northern Wisconsin.

Genesis 1990, Inc. is a peer run mental health recovery center.  We provide drop in supportive services for persons with mental health and mental disability challenges.  We are staffed by volunteers with shared experiences.  We conduct group sessions on recovery issues, as well as life skills, like sewing, woodworking, and budgeting classes.  We are open weekdays from 9-12, but until 1 on Wednesdays, when we have a community meal at lunch time.  There are no costs for members.

North Country Independent Living is a private non profit serving people of all disabilities of any age. Over 51% of our board and staff are people with disabilities. Our mission is to empower people with disabilities. Our vision is communities that are free of attitudinal, physical and social barriers. Our services include Individual and Systems Advocacy, Information & Referral, Independent Living Skills Training, Peer Support, Transition, Transportation Voucher Program, Assistive Technology, Personal Care, Work Incentives Benefits Counseling, Integrated Employment and ADA and disability consultation. We also have a Native American Independent Living project working directly within tribal communities.

The purpose of the Island Association is to help in the preservation and enhancement of Madeline Island for its residents, both permanent and seasonal, as well as its visitors. The Island Association will accomplish this by directing financial and other resources to projects which are cultural, educational, celebratory, and health-and safety-oriented in nature. It is also a vehicle through which members can provide input that has tangible effects on the Island, and whereby anyone can donate resources to projects sponsored by the Association.

We provide care to our year-round residents, part-time residents and visitors of Madeline Island. We see patients of all ages for general medical diagnosis, treatment and management of all organ systems, and treatment of minor emergencies.

We are a nonpartisan political organization whose main objective is to promote political responsibility through the informed and active participation of all in government at all levels, especially locally.

The Legislative Semester combats rising polarization and misinformation by giving high school authentic and relevant opportunities to discuss current issues. It is a semester-long high school civics program where students learn about the foundations of American government while developing skills for civic engagement. Students write their own bills, and practice civil discourse as they debate their proposals in a simulation of the legislative process. Research has shown that after this class students are more open minded, interested in political issues, and believe in their ability to make changes. Our goal is to bring this curriculum to schools everywhereo.

Older Americans face a complicated array of choices and decisions about a variety of issues, such as health care, housing, financial management, nutrition, and long-term care.We help seniors access services in Ashland abd Bayfiled Counties, WI. Cooperatively with the participant and their family, we can assess the needs of older adults, identify the most appropriate services to meet their needs, and link them and their caregivers to these services.

PFLAG is the nation’s largest organization dedicated to uniting people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) with their families, friends, and allies. Since 1972, its mission has been to advance equality and full societal affirmation of LGBTQ+ people through support, education, and advocacy. The PFLAG Washburn-Chequamegon Bay Chapter was founded in 2009 and serves Ashland and Bayfield counties in northern Wisconsin. We provide the Chequamegon Bay community of Lake Superior with information and a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals and their allies. As a recipient of the 100 Who Care award in July of 2023, PFLAG Washburn-Chequamegon Bay was able to open our Ashland Resource Center (522 Chapple Ave, Suite 102, Ashland). This space is a safe gathering place for meetings, special events, monthly board game nights, classes, and other outreach and community support opportunities.

Since 1992, the staff at Prentice House Inc. have been dedicated to building lasting relationships and facilitating positive change in the youth we serve. We offer comprehensive programming involving access to daily Groups, Individual & Family Therapy, AODA Treatment, Psychiatry, and other mental health services. Our residents receive educational services at our On Site School, Ashland Middle School, or Ashland High School. With three group homes licensed for up to eight residents, we are able to provide care for up to 24 clients at full capacity.

The Red Cliff Community Health Center’s mission is compassionate health and wellness services centered on our customers, their families and communities. Our vision is complete and integrated services for healthy living.

The Red Cliff Community Health Department is devoted to making healthy living achievable in our community. We engage the community and address emerging public health issues through education and services.

Regional Hospice Services, began providing compassionate care to patients and families dealing with terminal diagnoses in 1992. They stand by the belief that all who are eligible and wish to receive the services shall be provided end of life care regardless of their ability to pay.

The Salvation Army’s Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Division is located in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. It is home to 26 Worship and Community Centers (Corps), 67 service extension units, a camp, as well as multiple homeless shelters, thrift stores and food pantries. Service extension units are branches of The Salvation Army in communities where Corps are not located but service is provided by committees of volunteers.

Stone Soup Café The mission of Stone Soup Cafe is “to increase access to healthy food in a welcoming, safe space regardless of ability to pay.” We are a 501C3 currently run entirely by volunteers. Stone Soup Café is a “pay-as-you-can” café, welcoming everyone to share food and space together, recognizing that everyone has something to contribute as well as something to receive.In 2023, Stone Soup served monthly meals in the United Presbyterian Congregational Church dining room. In December we signed a lease to space on Main Street in Ashland, serving our first meal there in January 2024 We typically serve between 45 and 70 people per meal with the help of 6-10 volunteers .Stone Soup diners and volunteers represent the diversity of our community, including college students, individuals that experience food, housing, and financial insecurity, indigenous tribal members, LGBTQ individuals, and folks of all ages seeking community and good food. People who might never encounter each other outside of Stone Soup engage in conversation over delicious food. The community building aspect of Stone Soup goes far beyond simply providing food to those who are hungry.

Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity builds strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership, home repairs, and community revitalization across northwest Wisconsin, including Ashland and Bayfield counties. For three decades, Wild Rivers has built over 50 new homes and completed more than 450 critical home repairs, serving low-income families, veterans, and seniors to ensure safe and stable housing. In addition to home construction, critical repairs, homeowner education, and veteran-focused initiatives, Wild Rivers is also a USDA direct loan packager, helping low- and moderate-income households access affordable mortgage financing. Our dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and community partners uses a person-centered, trauma-informed approach to meet people where they are. Wild Rivers transforms lives and strengthens communities—one home at a time.
