Melissa's professional interests include working with a variety of speech and language disorders in infant, toddlers and school aged children. This includes apraxia of speech, aural rehabilitation following cochlear implant and autism spectrum disorder. She has experience with being on multidisciplinary teams and working closely with families and professionals. She specializes in patients from birth to three but assesses and treats all areas of child development. She is endorsed as infant mental health professional to help children navigate their emotions and form secure relationships with adults and peers in culture and community.
Melissa enjoys many outdoor activities, including hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, canoeing, and rollerblading, even though that is no longer in style. She also enjoys reading and attending her kid's sporting events.
I would tell patients/parents bringing their kids in to have some background family history that would be pertinent to share. I would tell them to think about how the speech/communication delay is affecting their daily life and we will work together to make a plan.
